A rice mill in Zamboanga Sibugay had recently been green-lit to receive assistance worth Seven Hundred Fifty Thousand Pesos (P750,000.00) from the Department of Science and technology IX (DOST IX) through the said agency's Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
The upgrades will allow the engine driven facility to mill ten (10) bags of palay per hour with an average weight of 60kg per bag, yielding an output of 14 bags of milled rice at 25kg per bag.

The funding will acquire the set of rice mill engine for the firm, which has been outsourcing dryer and rice milling services from a neighboring barangay for about five (5) years now.
Mr. Rogelio Nastor, owner of Rogelio Rice Milling said that dependence on the drying and milling schedules of their service provider has resulted in numerous delivery delays and decreased productivity.
“In 2019, the price of fresh harvest palay decreased from P18.00 to P12.00 per kilo with an average of 5-10kg moisture deduction per bag. Because of the absence of a post-harvest facility, the farmers have lack of option but to sell the produce directly to the buyers." said Nastor. His firm will also allow local farmers to "mill their produce at a lower price", he added.
The mill has also been designed to accommodate the minimum requirement of input that a household need, that is at least one (1) bag of palay.
