Some 27 local food processors / manufacturers in Pagadian City are expected to participate in the 2-day Seminars on Good Manufacturing Practices and Packaging and Labeling which will be on November 11 and 12, respectively, at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-9) Training Center, 3rd Floor, Gasul Bldg., Rizal Avenue, corner Duterte St., Pagadian City. Both seminars are ?free-of-charge? and intended for existing local food processors in the city.
The seminars, which will be conducted by the DOST-9, aim to equip the participants with ample knowledge and understanding on the importance of good manufacturing practices, appropriate use of packaging materials, and proper labeling of food products as well. The DOST has been providing technical assistance to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to improve their productivity and in making their products competitive both for international and local markets. The range of technical services that DOST provides include innovation support assistance, technical trainings, testing and analysis of food products, assistance in label design, evaluation of food labels in conformance to mandatory labeling requirements, and packaging development for food products.
In a related event, the workers of Danlugan Farmers Multipurpose Cooperative in barangay Danlugan is set to attend a half-day Seminar on Basic Sanitation and Hygiene on November 13, also to be conducted by the DOST-9 experts. The cooperative has recently forged a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the DOST-9 for its project entitled ?Upgrading of Dairy Products Processing Facilities and Product Packaging Improvement?. Under this agreement, DOST IX will provide the cooperative two (2) units milking machine and assists in the procurement of packaging materials.
