The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - IX lands in the Top 10 spot in the recently concluded 6th International Best Practice Competition held at Jumeirah at Etihad Towers, Abu Dhabi, UAE last 10-12 December 2018.
Among the Seventy-Four (74) entries submitted and assessed, only Thirty-Six (36) qualified to present during the said event. Out of the initial qualifiers, five (5) hailed from the Philippines, including DOST-IX’s Laboratory Online Referral System: An Innovation in Government Service Delivery.
The best practice Laboratory On-line Referral System is one of the IT platforms developed by the DOST- IX in-house IT staff under the project One-stop Laboratory Services for Global Competitiveness (OneLab). The Referral System allows for the sample receiving officer of the laboratory to check the services offered by the member laboratories to facilitate referral of samples. Through the system, tracking of the samples can be done. It also provides the laboratory management a platform to readily monitor the performance of the laboratory through generation of data such as number of transactions referred, number of samples and tests or calibration conducted, laboratory fees collected, cycle time per transaction. To date, 22 private and other government laboratories both in and out of the country joined the OneLab network of DOST laboratories to further cater the needs of the community.
DOST- IX was represented by Regional Director of DOST IX, Mr. Martin A. Wee, and Ms. Rosemarie S. Salazar, Assistant Regional Director for Finance, Administrative Support and Technical Services, who presented the organization’s best practice to the panel of judges as part of the evaluation together with.
The International Best Practice Competition encourages organizations to share their best operational and managerial practices, processes, systems, and initiatives and learn from the experience of others. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams that have been responsible for creating and/or managing the introduction and deployment of best practices. It was founded by the Centre for Organisational Excellence Research (COER), the developers of the Business Performance Improvement Resource and the TRADE Best Practice Benchmarking methodology.
The awards are supported by Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, Asia Pacific Quality Organisation and the Global Benchmarking Network to encourage the sharing of work practices to help organizations to quickly raise their performance and improve business results.
During the 3-day event, the DOST-IX representatives also had the privilege to meet the Philippine Ambassador to UAE H.E. (Ms.) Hjayceelyn M. Quintana and Vice Consul Anna Marie Mae R. Guerra who happens to be a former Science Research Specialist of the DOST- IX.
