Those with an affinity for things with a bit of "kick" may find DOST IX's RSTW to their liking. This year's Regional Science and Technology week in Dipolog City features Pangase Rice Wine and Coco Water Vinegar - both produced through the agency's CEST program.
CEST or Community Empowerment thru Science & Technology, is aimed at alleviating and enhancing the status of communities identified as the poorest of the poor in each region in the country through Science & Technology (S&T) interventions on five (05) identified S&T entry points, namely Basic Education and Literacy, Livelihood/Economic Enterprise Development, Health and Nutrition, Water and Sanitation, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation.
Both products are produced by the industrious Subanen women of Buug, Zamboanga Sibugay. Traditionally sold in clay jars called banga, the production of Pangase Wine has since been given an upgrade by the agency's program, and is now sold in durable glass bottles. This has made transporting and marketing the wine easier, and has also prolonged the product's shelf life significantly.
Aside from these two, the RSTW is also home to a plethora of S&T assisted and developed products and technologies. To learn more about what the RSTW has to offer, visit the Zamboanga del Norte Convention and Sports Center on July 25-27. The event is open to all interested individuals (S&T enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, students, researchers, inventors, innovators, professionals and the general public). ADMISSION IS FREE.
