In a bid to make science and math learning more accessible to students and help teachers find ways to teach in a more effective way, the Department of Science & Technology- Advance Science &Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) has been developing Science and Mathematics courseware for elementary and highschool students and teachers since 2006 with support from the Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).
A Facebook netizen said, “The courseware project will be very helpful to my nieces and nephew” in a message sent via the courseware’s Facebook page.
“The coursewares make full use of information technology to aid our classrooms and teachers in enriching the students’ learning environment in science and mathematics. These tools are developed by Filipinos for Filipinos, hence teachers no longer have to use foreign materials” said DOST Sec. Mario G. Montejo.
The project is internet-based, which makes it more appealing to students whose interest are into information technology and computers. The said resources are made accessible for free to public schools and online through the web at http://courseware.dost.gov.ph, which was created by DOST-ASTI in 2014 making the materials available downloadable for free.
All the modules have been reviewed and tested through the collaboration of DOST-ASTI, SEI, and the UP National Institute of Science and Mathematics. As of writing, the project has launched the App version at the Google Play Store for android phones and tablets and the modules on the website have been downloaded over 15,000 times.
