In its effort to reach out and empower local communities through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), the DOST IX - Science and Technology Information Center (STIC) offers various S&T-based services / facilities for the development of local constituents.
DOST IX Assistant Regional Director Mr. Martin A. Wee said that any individuals or groups can have access or avail of the following services: 1) Technology & Livelihood Resources – materials on many business prospects and opportunities are available for aspiring or prospective entrepreneurs who want to transform their ideas into real business and profits; 2) Philippine’s 1st Digital Science Library - Science and Technology Academic Research Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS) which contains thousands of collections of library materials such as books, journals, researches and investigatory studies, livelihood videos, among others; 3) Print and Non-Print Materials such as books, journals and other references; 4) S & T Film Showing – any interested groups can schedule for screening of S&T films on various topics / issues.
Additionally, the DOST-ICTO Tech4Ed Facility which DOST IX-STIC is hosting provides 5) Computer Literacy Training - individuals or groups can avail of hands-on training / workshop on basic computer and Internet applications, such as word processing, spreadsheet, power point presentation, emails, social media platforms, among others (10 computer units are available); 6) Online access and filing of government documents / clearances like NBI, NSO, SSS, PhilHealth, among others; 7) Non-Formal Education – access to Alternative Learning System (ALS), TESDA skills training, Rotary eLibrary, Values and Character Formation. These are intended for out-of-school youths and civil society group.
Mr. Wee further said that in order for the general public to be more acquainted with the available services, the DOST IX invites every Juan especially to those groups or individuals who belong to community organizations of youths, women, senior citizens, indigenous people and even persons with disabilities to visit the center and avail of the services for free.
