The Department of Science and Technology-IX will conduct an orientation for the qualifiers of the 2014 Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS) under the Republic Act No. 10612, otherwise known as “Fast-Tracked S&T Scholarship Act of 2013”. The orientation is scheduled on January 29, 2015 (2PM) at the DOST IX – Science and Technology Information Center (STIC), 2/F MCC Bldg., San Jose Road, Zamboanga City.
RA 10612 aims to strengthen the country’s science and technology education by fast tracking graduates in the sciences, mathematics and engineering who shall teach science and mathematics in secondary schools throughout the country.
Out of 68 applicants from all over the region, only 12 or 17 % passed the competitive examination given last October 18, 2014 at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU).
The Region IX qualifiers are 1) Abes, Ivy Credo; 2) Bonifacio, Prince Zero Panaligan; 3) Bruno, Adriel Jan Dini-ay; 4) Diano, Michelle Anne Bernabe; 5) Duarong, Bienvenido Flores, Jr. 6) Garcia, Lyra Jean Velo; 7) Ibni, Abuhayier Yahcob; 8) Sinahon, Eljay Ryann Torremocha; 9) Sta Tereza, Rexy Joice Francisco; 10) Uckung, Rizma Kila; 11) Villanueva, Deanne Kathleen Torres; and 12) Zabala, Angelica Bayot.
Scholars will enjoy privileges such as tuition and other school fees amounting to P10,000 per semester or P8,000.00 per trimester / term; book allowance of P10,000.00 per year; monthly stipend of P5,000.00 (for BS Physics / Applied Physics / Physics Teaching / Geology / Mining Engineering), while P4,000.00 for other DOST-SEI priority courses; transportation allowance and accidental insurance worth P200,000.
Moreover, after graduation the scholar shall be given priority for job placement in secondary schools in the country, through the Department of Education or a private high school and therefore allowed to teach even without Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) eligibility but has to pass the LET within 5 years from date of hiring.
