Need to expand or upgrade your existing business? If yes, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST IX) would like to invite you to come and participate in the 2015 Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) Orientation, which will be held on February 12 (2-5PM), at the DOST-Science and Technology Information Center (STIC), 2/F MCC Bldg., San Jose Road, Zamboanga City. Same orientation will also be conducted in Isabela City, Basilan Province on February 13 (venue is still being arranged).
SETUP is a nationwide strategy encouraging and assisting micro, small, medium enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt technology innovations to improve operations and boost productivity and competitiveness. Through this program, MSMEs can address technical / production problems through DOST interventions such as 1) system improvement – upgrading of equipment to improve productivity; 2) product development – better product quality; 3) manpower development - training on the operation and maintenance of equipment, basic sanitation and hygiene and good manufacturing practices; and 4) process improvement - technical consultancy on proper plant lay-outing).
DOST IX Regional Director Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano said that the program is open to any micro, small and medium scale business firm that is under the following priority sectors: a) Food processing; b) Gifts, housewares, decors; 3) Marine and aquatic resources; 4) Horticulture and agriculture; 5) Metals and engineering; 6) Health products and services / Pharmaceuticals; and 7) ICT/Electronics.
Furthermore, in its 14 years of implementation in the region, DOST IX has assisted 191 companies with total interventions amounting to PhP118.19M. This year 2015, the science agency has targeted to fund around P40M worth of SETUP project proposals in Region IX.
