A total of 1,258 aspiring applicants took the qualifying exam for the 2015 DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship held on September 21 in five (5) test centers in Zamboanga Peninsula.
“The examination was conducted simultaneously all over the country where more than 41,000 high school students vie for 4,000 scholarship slots” stated Dir. Brenda Nazareth-Manzano, DOST IX Regional Director.
In Zamboanga Peninsula, the test centers were: Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City; Dipolog City Medical Center, Dipolog City; Chandler Suites, Pagadian City; Basilan State College, Isabela City; and Sibugay Hotel, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. Test centers were able to cater 100% cities and municipalities within region.
Dir. Nazareth-Manzano said that the list of successful examinees will be released in March 2015.
DOST will award scholarships to qualifiers who wish to pursue priority fields of study in science, mathematics and engineering.
Among the scholarship privileges include tuition and other school fees up to P 10,000 per semester; book allowance of P10,000 per year; monthly stipend up to P 5,000; PE uniform allowance; round trip transportation allowance; group health and accident insurance; and post-graduation clothing allowance.
Since the enactment of the S&T Scholarship programs (RA 7687) in 1994, Dir. Nazareth-Manzano said that a total of 352 scholars from Region IX have successfully graduated and are now practicing their fields of specialization.
This year’s examination guarantees a new pool of future S&T experts who will beef up the attainment of the country’s research and development thrust.
