38 new scholars of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) attended the ongoing Science and Technology Learning Assistance Program – Summer Enrichment Class, one of the strategies to prepare S&T scholarship recipients to become competitive in college.
Joining the one-month program held at the College of Science and Mathematics – Western Mindanao State University (CSM-WMSU), which started on May 8 and ending on May 29, are scholars who will enroll in Western Mindanao State University (WMSU), Ateneo de Zamboanga University (AdZU), Zamboanga State College of Marine Science and Technology (ZSCMST) and other state universities or colleges with accredited S&T priority courses in Zamboanga Peninsula.
The program is a 124-hour refresher course designed to steer the groundwork of the scholars in Mathematics, Physics and English. It also seeks to introduce the scholars to a taste of college life that can help for their adjustment and instill in them the proper study habits and techniques that can contribute to their success in college. The enrichment classes will focus on four areas: 1) College Mathematics (College Algebra, Trigonometry and Analytic Geometry); 2) Physics (Mechanics); 3) Basic English (Grammar, Usage and Technical Writing); and 4) Psycho-Social Skills Development.
Teaching the new breed of scholars are college professors namely Mr. Eliezer Estrecho (WMSU) for Mathematics; Mr. Christian Cainglet (WMSU) for Physics; Dr. Jaime Jalon (ZSCMST) for English; and Ms. Muwkam Siñerez (AdZU) for Psycho-Social.
DOST-IX hopes that this year’s batch of scholars will ultimately add to the pool of scientists and engineers who will actively lead in S&T activities, research and development, and innovation. Through DOST's summer enrichment class, the scholars are a step closer to become successful during and after college.
