The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office NO. IX (DOST-IX) is conducting the Philippine Nuclear Science Quiz (PNSQ) Regional Competition on December 5, 2012 at Marcian Business Hotel, Zamboaga City. Winners in the regional elimination will represent the region in the PNSQ national competition on December 13, 2012 which will be held at the Nido fortified Science Discovery Center at the SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City.
Participating institutions will field a team entry composed of 2 students (one junior and one senior) and an official coach. DOST-IX shall award qualified top two (2) teams with trophies and certificate of appreciation to the official coach while non-winning teams shall receive certificate of participation.
PNSQ, the first nuclear science quiz to be held with regional participation, is in line with DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute’s (DOST-PNRI) 40th Atomic Energy Week (AEW) celebration on December 10 to 14, 2012 with the theme “Nuclear Science, Technology and Innovation: Engine for Growth and Development.”
Big prizes await the winners of the Philippine Nuclear Science Quiz – National Competition to include cash prizes in the amount of P 20,000, P 15,000, P 10,000 for the first, second and third placer, respectively. In addition, a medal of recognition for each member of the team, a trophy for the school and a plaque of recognition for the coach will be given away to the winners of said competition during the AEW closing ceremonies on December 14, 2012.
The annual AEW celebration, as mandated under Presidential Proclamation No. 1211 in 1973, aims to generate awareness of the Filipino people on the beneficial uses of nuclear science and technology in food and agriculture, health and, medicine, industry energy, and the environment.
