Goodies Milk Products is a family enterprise which started in 2007 in Dipolog City. The firm engages in the production and processing of fresh milk and other processed milk products. As one of the recipients of National Dairy Authority (NDA) program, the firm received cows from New Zealand. Started with only four (4) cows in 2008, subsequently increased and now the enterprise has a total of 15 cows. The main products of the firm include fresh milk and milk bars, which have been making very good business for the company. Among the outlets of the firm are schools, canteens, and pasalubong centers.
The increasing demand for the products encouraged the firm to expand its current production facility through the support of the Department of Science and Technology – Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (DOST-SETUP). As an initial step in providing technical assistance, DOST-IX conducted a Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) of the firm. As a result, the project entitled “Upgrading of Processing Facility of Goodies Milk Products” received financial assistance amounting to Four Hundred Twenty Six Thousand Pesos (P426,000.00) to cover the acquisition of needed production equipment such as 1) 1 unit stainless steel table; 2) 1 unit pasteurizer of 80 liter capacity; 3) 1 unit of refilling tank at 120 liter capacity; 4) 1 unit upright freezer; and 5) 1 unit upright chiller.
With DOST’s interventions, the firm is expected to 1) produce good quality of milk products; 2) standardize production process; 3) increase productivity resulting from upgraded production facility; 4) increase income by about 15% through improved productivity; 5) penetrate new market and distribution outlets at nearby municipalities outside Dipolog City; and 6) generate additional employment opportunities in the area.
SETUP, a flagship program of DOST, is a nationwide strategy to encourage and assist micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in implementing technological innovations and improvements in their operations to boost their productivity and competitiveness. (DOST IX PRESS RELEASE)
