Avail of STARBOOKS now!
With the goal of providing an effective and efficient access to S&T information through the use of information and communications technologies (ICT), the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. IX (DOST IX) in collaboration with DOST-Science & Technology Information Institute (DOST-STII) is inviting educational institutions, LGUs, NGOs and private corporations in the region to avail of the DOST-STII STARBOOKS.
STARBOOKS, or the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly-Operated Kiosk Stations, is a stand alone, onsite research kiosk that provides free access on S&T information for academic and livelihood use.
Dubbed as the “First Philippine Science Digital Library”, STARBOOKS contains thousands of digitized science and technology resources in various formats such as text and video / audio.
It features videos on DOST-developed technologies for entrepreneurs looking for potential science-based livelihood. The videos range from food processing to laundry soap making and other livelihood materials. The DOST through the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) will continuously build the STARBOOKS content to ensure that the information offered are rich and timely.
The new academic and livelihood resource differs from other library portals as it does not require Internet connectivity to deliver information to its users. The kiosk has a built-in server that provides instant access to S&T information and this information may be printed using a portable printer.
STARBOOKS aims to create and enhance interest of students in the field of S&T, encourage their great and curious minds to develop new ideas--inventions and innovations, and inspire their capacity to get involved in research and entrepreneurship.
DOST-STII thru DOST IX can offer the STARBOOKS content for free. Interested parties who are willing to provide the hardware components may write our office a letter signifying their intent to avail of the STARBOOKS software.
