In its quest to help develop and strengthen the science and technology (S&T) production sector, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) IX has recently approved the provision of S&T intervention to the project entitled “Establishment of Seaweeds Noodles Processing Facility.” The project beneficiary is the Local Government Unit of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

The project aims to help the local residents develop livelihood activities and generate income through the application of FNRI-developed seaweeds-based noodles technology. The objective of this intervention is to curb malnutrition and mitigate hunger in poor rural communities in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay. The project is part of the “Siglang Pinoy” hunger mitigation program of DOST-FNRI.

Specifically, DOST-IX’s assistance to the facility involves (1) system development; (2) process improvement; and (3) manpower development. The S&T intervention amounted to two hundred forty-two thousand seven hundred thirty pesos (P 242,730.00) funded through the DOST Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program.

Through the project, LGU Ipil is expected to generate more income as well as help improve product quality and productivity, lessen malnutrition incidence, and increase employment and business opportunities for the community. (DOST-IX PRESS RELEASE)
