The Department of Science and Technology IX is conducting a Technology Training on Food Processing on December 1 - 2, 2011 at the Permex Canteen, Ayala, Zamboanga City.
Some thirty (30) workers / members of SAMAHANG MANGGAGAWA SA PERMEX (SMP) of Ayala Industrial District located at Ayala, Zamboanga City are expected to attend the two-day workshop.
Specifically, the technology training is aimed at providing the participants with scientific knowledge and techniques on processing four food technologies / products such as Greaseless Peanuts, Peanut Brittle, Sugar-Coated Peanuts, and Banana Chips.
Greaseless peanuts, Peanut Brittle and Sugar-coated peanut are widely known appetizers in the country. While Banana chips are deep-fried and/or dried slices of bananas.
The DOST-IX food processing experts, Ms. Sonora L. Buñag and Ms. Jovita A. Amparo will serve as the resource speakers / trainers in the said event. Participants who are interested to go into business may request for a follow-thru hands-on training.
The conduct of this technology training is DOST’s response to provide livelihood program to canned sardines workers who will be displaced during the closed fishing season from December to March. (DOST-IX Press Release)
