The Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology (FNRI-DOST) is set to organize the Nutrition Communication Network (NUTRICOMNET) in Zamboanga Peninsula region on April 11, 2008 at the Lotus Restaurant, Grand Astoria Hotel, this city. The network will include provincial and regional media practitioners and information officers of various government agencies and private institutions involved in food, nutrition, and health promotion. The local media practitioners and information officers, as disseminators of information, play a significant role as the vital link between the scientists and technologists and the research and technology users.
Specifically, the NUTRICOMET aims to increase the availability of information materials on food and nutrition among members of the local media and information officers; and intensify exposure of nutrition messages in the local media through provincial, regional newspapers, radio and television stations, and other venues like seminars, trainings, interpersonal communication channels as well as other media formats.
During the meeting, FNRI will be launching the first online nutrition school in the country with URL http://www.nutritionschool.ph. The site provides a convenient and effective online place of study for anyone with a personal interest in nutrition. It is also a perfect venue for professional to brush up on current nutrition information. The school may also help in fulfilling requirements of certification needed by professional or corporate groups.
