Climate change is now widely recognized as the major environmental problem facing the globe. The issue becomes more intense as almost everyone can feel its effects. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) believes that staying informed about climate change and supporting significant efforts and strategies to slow its progress are things everyone can do.
Cognizant of this, the DOST IX conducted a Symposium on Climate Change, as part of the 2010 National Science and Technology Week – Regional Celebration in Pagadian City on July 26-30, 2010. The symposium aimed to raise greater awareness and better public understanding on climate change, as well as educating the participants on the proper ways to mitigate its effects to the ecosystem.
Over 100 participants composed of students and teachers of various public and private institutions, local and national government agencies, and civic group actively participated in the event, which was held at the Liga Convention Center on July 28, 2010.
Engr. Florenette Garcia of PHIVOLCS Dipolog City and Ms. Maribel Enriquez of PAGASA Zamboanga City office served as resource speakers during the symposium. (DOST IX PRESS RELEASE)
