The tree planting is one of the many strategies that anyone can adopt in responding to global climate change. The event was closely coordinated with Mr. Joy Balandra, Begong Barangay Chairman and Mr. Alvin Ang, DOST-SETUP project beneficiary on Kiln Dryer Facility located at Dumalinao, Zamboanga del Sur.
The tree planting was one of the various events lined up for the 2010 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) – Regional Celebration in Pagadian City and Zamboanga del Sur.
From Tigbao Municipality, the participants also joined the DOST motorcade to Pagadian City, followed by the Opening Ceremonies which was held at the Liga Convention Center, Pagadian City.
The science community adopted “Filipinnovation, The Way Forward” as 2010 NSTW theme even as it steers the country towards a culture of innovation. Filipinnovation is a combination of two words, Filipino and innovation. The latter term is lifted from the present innovation program of DOST which encourages the upgrading of the Filipino mindset towards innovation on products and services. Dr. Carlos Tomboc, Director of the DOST’s Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), served as the keynote speaker during the Opening Ceremonies.
