The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) leads the celebration of the 2010 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) every July of the year.    The annual event aims to raise public understanding of science and technology as well as DOST’s role and contributions to national development.

This year’s NSTW keeps in step with the theme, “Filipinnovation: The Way Forward”.

In Zamboanga Peninsula region, the DOST IX will hold the event in Pagadian City and Zamboanga del Sur province on July 26 to 30, 2010.   Various activities that showcase recent developments and achievements in domestic science and technology along with technology fora and symposium are lined up for the week-long activity.

The program of activities are :

July 26 (Monday) -  Tree Planting at Motosawa, Dumalinao, ZDS (8-9am); Motorcade from Dumalinao, ZDS to Pagadian City (9–10am); Opening Program at Liga Convention Center, Pagadian City (10am-12:00nn);

July 27 (Tuesday, 1-5pm) – Technology Fora on Selected ITDI Technologies & DOST Info Drive at Bay Plaza Hotel, Pagadian City.  The technologies to be promoted are : a) New Trends in Recycling Compact Discs (CD) Scraps; b) Alternative Sugars; c) Wine Kit; and d) Water Purifier for Rural Communities;

July 28 (Wednesday, 1-5pm) – Symposium on Climate Change at Liga Convention Center, Pagadian City;

July 28 (Wednesday, 1-5pm) – Technology Forum on FNRI-developed Nutritious Food Technologies (Squash Squid and Fish Balls, Squash Gulaman, Squash Crunchies and Fish Kikiams) at the DOST IX office at Gasul Bldg, cor. Duterte St., Rizal Avenue, Pagadian City;

July 29 (Thursday, 8-12nn) – DOST IX Outreach Program (Feeding on DOST Nutritious Food Products) at the Municipality of Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur.

July 29 (Thursday, 1:5pm) - Benchmarking on DOST-assisted projects :  Bioreactor Facility of LGU – Margosatubig; Lumber Kiln-Dryer Facility of Wood Tech Builders; and Dried Tilapia Processing Plant of Greenhouse Processing and Restaurant.

DOST IX invites interested parties (SMEs, LGUs, NGOs, NGAs, HS and Tertiary Schools, media practitioners, and private individuals) to participate in the Technology Fora and other activities.  Attendance is free-of-charge, however, due to limited slots, prospective participants are enjoined to sign-up for reservation by calling DOST IX office at telephone no.
