Some 15 beneficiaries of Kalambuan Project Parents Association Inc. (KPPA) composed of housewives, out-of-school youths, and other members of the Association attended the training on Advanced Handloom Weaving held last March 23 ? 27, 2009 at the Balangasan Barangay Hall in Pagadian City. The trainers were Ms. Josefa Garlitos and Mr. Ramiro Guab of the DOST?s Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) in Manila.
The DOST-IX?s interventions include financial assistance for the acquisition of six (6) units handloom weaving equipment and provision of experts to conduct the said training. On the other hand, FIDA-IX provided the fiber material which was used during the workshop. The utilization of abaca fiber in weaving can capture huge demand in both local and export markets. Abaca fiber is readily available in some municipalities like in Lapuyan, Kumalarang, Midsalip, Josefina, Dumingag and Molave in Zamboanga del Sur.
The next step the association will do is to invite the Department of Trade and Industry Office to conduct a seminar on how to cost their products as well as how to promote their products in the markets. (DOST-IX PRESS RELEASE)
