DOST-9 LABORATORY RENEWSISO/IEC 17025:2005 ACCREDITATION By: Thelma E. Diego
The Department of Science and Technology ? IX Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories (DOST- RSTLs) announced recently that it has successfully renewed its PNS ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Accreditation known as ?General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories?, as certified by the Philippine Accreditation Office (PAO) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
?Having been ISO/IEC 17025:2005-accredited for the second time speaks well of a customer-driven commitment?, said Dir. Brenda L. Nazareth-Manzano, Regional Director, DOST-IX. ?We live and work with the philosophy of continuous improvement in the way we provide testing services, with total customer satisfaction as our ultimate goal?.
The renewal of ISO 17025:2005 accreditations cover provisions for Microbiological Testing and Chemical Testing. The scope of accreditation for microbiological testings are aerobic plate count, heterotrophic plate count, total coliform count, fecal coliform test, yeast and molds for foods, beverages, water and effluents; while the chemical testings include crude protein, crude fat, moisture content, ash content for food (fish, crustaceans, mollusks and derived products and dried fish), soy sauce and fish meal.
The Certification was issued on the 27th day of November 2008 and is valid until 17 February 2013 subject to continuing conformity with the criteria and PAO conditions for laboratory accreditation. DOST IX-RSTLs was first accredited in 2005 by BPSLAS (now PAO). This marks its 4th year as an ISO 17025:2005 accredited laboratory.
ISO/IEC 17025:2005 is a Quality Management Systems (QMS) that focuses on both the management system and technical competence of the laboratory. Laboratory accreditation brings with it recognition of technical expertise, benchmark of performance, marketing advantage, and international recognition. (DOST IX PRESS RELEASE)
