Zamboanga Del Sur, Philippines - DOST PHIVOLCS, in collaboration with DOST IX and PDRRMO Zamboanga del Sur, conducted a successful preparatory session for the upcoming training entitled "Mainstreaming Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) into the Local Development Planning Process, Contingency Planning, and Emergency Preparedness through the Use of the REDAS Software." The preparatory session was held via Zoom on April 19, 2023.
The session aimed to brief the facilitators, organizers, and resource speakers on the objectives and mechanics of the upcoming REDAS (Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System) training. The facilitators were given instructions and guidelines on how to effectively conduct the seminar sessions. The organizers also discussed the flow and schedule of the event, including the different activities and topics to be tackled.
The training will be conducted in three (3) batches, with each batch scheduled for a pre-training session via Zoom followed by a face-to-face training session. The schedule for the training is as follows:

The training aims to equip participants with a more immersive learning experience and hands-on training in using the REDAS software in their disaster preparedness and response efforts. The training will cover various topics, including understanding weather hazards, satellite rainfall monitor data acquisition, basic REDAS features, building survey exercises, earthquake risk assessment computations, and more.
Through this initiative, the DOST-IX, as the Vicechair of the RDRRMC IX, remains committed to promoting disaster risk reduction and management in Region IX. Through the REDAS software and other innovative tools and strategies, we hope to empower local government units and communities to be better prepared and resilient in the face of disasters.
