The Department of Science and Technology—Regional Office No. IX (DOST-IX), through its Provincial Science and Technology Office of Zamboanga Sibugay (PSTO-ZSP), turned over DOST funding assistance to J-Jireh Ice Plant & Cold Storage amounting to Two Million Eight Hundred Seventy-Five Thousand Pesos (₱2,875,000.00) for the procurement of the 30-ton compressor technology.
For the first tranche of project fund turnover, Provincial S&T Director, Ms. Jennifer A. Pidor, personally turned over a check to Mr. Roman D. Yeo, project cooperator and proprietor of J-Jireh Ice Plant & Cold Storage, on January 10, 2023, amounting to One Million Seven Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Pesos (₱1,725,000.00) for the procurement of the above-mentioned technology.
All these S&T interventions are expected to provide better and more affordable ice products to the community, hasten the production output through the acquired technology, and increase the firm’s net income by at least 50%. Mr. Yeo thanked DOST-IX for the opportunity given to him to upgrade his business operations. He further ensured the office would closely monitor the progress of delivery and installation of the equipment and provide timely updates on the overall project implementation.
SETUP is DOST’s flagship program for assisting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and identified industries to improve productivity through different technological interventions such as the acquisition of innovative and cost-effective facilities, product development, process improvement, workforce capacity empowerment, and consulting services, among others.
