DOST funds over 60M to boost various SMEs’ productivity in Region IX

In 2019, a total of 48 firms and businesses in various sectors have been given assistance amounting to a total of ₱60,462,805.61 through the Small-Medium Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP), flagship program of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).
Of the total, 13 projects have been funded in Zamboanga del Sur, costing ₱16,218,136.01; 12 in Zamboanga Sibugay, amounting to 20,799,790.00; 18 in Zamboanga del Norte, worth 15,549,079.60, and 5 in Zamboanga City, for 7,895,800.00.

Transforming seaweed into savings through science and technology

Seaweed farming has long been a reliable source of income for coastal communities in the Philippines; fringed by waters of the Sulu Sea and the Moro Gulf, the city of Zamboanga is no stranger to the seaweed trade.
Only recently, four (4) communities in the city, namely barangays of Sta. Catalina, Mampang, Arena Blanco, and Tigtabon have moved to adopt technologies that target seaweed efficient drying process and quality dried seaweed.

The Department of Science and Technology - Regional Office No. IX (DOST-IX) through the Provincial S&T Center - Zamboanga Sibugay (PSTC-ZSP) participated in the "Ground Breaking Ceremony" for the construction of a halfway house for Former Rebels (FRs) and Militia ng Bayan (MB) held this morning at the identified site within the capitol grounds in Ipil Heights, Ipil.
